My Precious Bunny, das Soloprojekt von Lily Wolter vom Dream-Pop-Duo Penelope Isles, kündigt heute ihr Debütalbum A Moment In My Eyes an, das am 22. Mai über Bella Union erscheinen und hier vorbestellt werden kann. Wolter macht sich selbstständig und kreiert Musik, die sich wie eine Erinnerung anfühlt: sonnenverblasst, weitläufig und zutiefst lebendig. Es ist intim und filmisch zugleich: Musik für nächtliche Herz-zu-Herz-Gespräche und lange Autofahrten ohne bestimmtes Ziel, jede Note voller Nostalgie und Bewegung. Begleitend zur heutigen Ankündigung hat Lily ein Video zur ersten Single „I Go Up, You Go Down” aus dem Album veröffentlicht.

Lily Wolter sagt über den Track: „Auf dem Höhepunkt des Lockdowns im Haus meiner Eltern war ‚I Go Up, You Go Down‘ eine Beobachtung von allem, was zu dieser Zeit um mich herum geschah: Ich machte eine langwierige Trennung durch, zog zu meinen Eltern und sah in den Nachrichten, wie die Welt zusammenbrach. Inmitten des Chaos war ich völlig davon eingenommen, wie schrecklich es ist, dass man jahrelang mit jemandem das Bett teilt, sich gegenseitig die ganze Welt ist, und dann eines Tages … sich auf der Straße aus dem Weg geht. Ein Herzschmerz, den viele nachempfinden können. Dies war der Testmix, der den Deal mit Paul Gregory (Lanterns On The Lake) besiegelte. Er schaffte es, die Dynamik des Songs mit großer Sorgfalt zu behandeln und ihm gleichzeitig einen ordentlichen Schub zu geben.”

Außerdem hat My Precious Bunny Live-Termine in Großbritannien für die nächsten Monate angekündigt, darunter Auftritte in London und beim The Great Escape in Brighton. Alle Termine sind unten aufgeführt.

„A Moment In My Eyes“ entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit Kindheitsfreund Allister Kellaway (Last Living Cannibal) und markiert sowohl einen persönlichen Schritt als auch die Umsetzung einer langjährigen gemeinsamen Idee. Die Songs zeichnen sich durch eine vielschichtige, emotionale Klanggestaltung aus: verzerrte Pop-Elemente, Saxophon-Passagen, warme analoge Synthesizer und unruhige Gitarren treffen auf rohe Chorstimmen. Daraus entsteht ein unmittelbarer, dynamischer Sound, dessen ineinandergreifende Melodien ein Gefühl von Nähe und Zusammenhalt vermitteln.

Wolter ist auf der Isle of Man geboren und aufgewachsen, einem Ort zwischen Mythos und Nebel, und ihre Musik ist untrennbar mit der Landschaft verbunden, die sie geprägt hat. Mal zutiefst persönlich und bekennend, mal mitreißend und orchestral, bewegen sich ihre Songs mit einer Zielstrebigkeit, als wären sie von Zeit und Gezeiten geformt. Mit einigen der besten Musiker Brightons, die auf dem Album zu hören sind, gewinnt My Precious Bunny schnell an Dynamik.

Lily Wolter über My Precious Bunny und ihr Debüt-Soloalbum:
„Ursprünglich hieß das Projekt ‚KookieLou‘. Ich begann damit, als ich 16 war und am College auf der Isle of Man einen B-Tech-Abschluss in Kunst und Design machte. Das war der Beginn meiner kreativen Arbeit – Skulpturen, Drucke, Zeichnungen und schließlich Demos. Seit der Gründung von Penelope Isles (einer Band, die ich 2017 mit meinem Bruder in Brighton gegründet habe) stand dieses Nebenprojekt etwas im Hintergrund. Ich hatte immer vor, irgendwann etwas damit zu machen, fand aber nie die Zeit dafür, weil ich mich voll und ganz auf Penelope Isles konzentrierte. Erst als der Lockdown kam und ich das Glück hatte, vier Monate lang im Haus meiner Eltern in Penzance, Cornwall, zu leben, wo ich nichts anderes zu tun hatte, als Demos aufzunehmen und surfen zu gehen (ich gehörte zu den Glücklichen), schrieb ich die meisten dieser Songs. Frisch aus einer Trennung kommend, war ich in schwere Gedanken, Eifersucht, Herzschmerz, Erinnerungen, Verwirrung, Unsicherheit und geringes Selbstwertgefühl versunken, die ich durch das Erstellen von Demos in meinem Schlafzimmer verarbeitete. Ich hörte sie mir stolz immer wieder an und fragte mich, was ich damit anfangen sollte. Es war extrem kathartisch, und ich bin so dankbar für dieses kleine Kapitel.

Als mein Bruder mit einem anderen Projekt beschäftigt war, war es für mich der perfekte Zeitpunkt, diese Songs mit Hilfe meines sehr guten Freundes Allister Kellaway richtig aufzunehmen. Ich lernte Alli kennen, als ich 15 Jahre alt war, und sein damaliges Projekt (The Mantis Opera) war eine riesige Inspiration für mich. Ich habe Allis Songs und die Art, wie er sie klingen lässt, immer bewundert, und ich konnte es kaum glauben, als er zusagte, mein Album zu produzieren. Für mich ergab das total Sinn, und es war mir eine große Ehre, dass er all das zum Leben erweckt hat. Ich bin nicht nur mit ihm als wichtigem Vorbild aufgewachsen, sondern seine wunderschön ruhige und geduldige Art, gepaart mit seinem umfangreichen Wissen und seiner Leidenschaft für Dinge, die ich nicht verstehe, haben zu einer wirklich besonderen Zeit geführt.

„My Precious Bunny“ hat mich meine Mutter immer genannt. „A Moment In My Eyes“ ist der letzte Titel des Albums und beschreibt diese Sammlung von Gedanken und Gefühlen am besten.“  Home

My Precious Bunny, the solo project of Lily Wolter from dream pop duo Penelope Isles, today announces her debut album, A Moment In My Eyes, which will be released on 22 May via Bella Union and is available for pre-order here. Wolter strikes out on her own, creating music that feels like a memory: sun-faded, expansive and deeply alive. It is both intimate and cinematic: music for late-night heart-to-heart conversations and long car rides with no particular destination, every note full of nostalgia and movement. Accompanying today’s announcement, Lily has released a video for the album’s first single, ‘I Go Up, You Go Down’.

Lily Wolter says of the track: „At the height of lockdown at my parents‘ house, “I Go Up, You Go Down” was an observation of everything that was happening around me at the time: I was going through a messy breakup, moved in with my parents, and watched the world fall apart on the news. Amidst the chaos, I was completely consumed by how awful it is to share a bed with someone for years, to be each other’s whole world, and then one day… to avoid each other on the street. A heartbreak that many can relate to.

This was the test mix that sealed the deal with Paul Gregory (Lanterns On The Lake). He managed to handle the dynamics of the song with great care while giving it a proper boost.

My Precious Bunny has also announced live dates in the UK for the coming months, including shows in London and at The Great Escape in Brighton. All dates are listed below.

‘A Moment In My Eyes’ was created in collaboration with childhood friend Allister Kellaway (Last Living Cannibal) and marks both a personal step forward and the realisation of a long-standing shared idea. The songs are characterised by a multi-layered, emotional soundscape: distorted pop elements, saxophone passages, warm analogue synthesizers and restless guitars meet raw choir voices. The result is an immediate, dynamic sound whose intertwining melodies convey a feeling of closeness and cohesion.

Wolter was born and raised on the Isle of Man, a place between myth and mist, and her music is inextricably linked to the landscape that shaped her. Sometimes deeply personal and confessional, sometimes rousing and orchestral, her songs move with a purposefulness as if shaped by time and the tides. Featuring some of Brighton’s finest musicians, My Precious Bunny quickly gains momentum.

„Originally, the project was called “KookieLou”. I started it when I was 16 and studying for a BTech degree in art and design at college on the Isle of Man. That was the beginning of my creative work – sculptures, prints, drawings and eventually demos. Since founding Penelope Isles (a band I started with my brother in Brighton in 2017), this side project has taken a back seat. I always intended to do something with it at some point, but never found the time because I was fully focused on Penelope Isles. It wasn’t until lockdown came and I was lucky enough to live at my parents‘ house in Penzance, Cornwall, for four months, where I had nothing else to do but record demos and go surfing (I was one of the lucky ones), that I wrote most of these songs. Fresh out of a breakup, I was immersed in heavy thoughts, jealousy, heartbreak, memories, confusion, insecurity and low self-esteem, which I processed by creating demos in my bedroom. I listened to them proudly over and over again and wondered what to do with them. It was extremely cathartic, and I am so grateful for this little chapter.

When my brother was busy with another project, it was the perfect time for me to properly record these songs with the help of my very good friend Allister Kellaway. I met Alli when I was 15 years old, and his project at the time (The Mantis Opera) was a huge inspiration to me. I’ve always admired Alli’s songs and the way he makes them sound, and I couldn’t believe it when he agreed to produce my album. It made total sense to me, and it was a great honour to have him bring it all to life. Not only did I grow up with him as an important role model, but his beautifully calm and patient manner, coupled with his extensive knowledge and passion for things I don’t understand, made for a truly special time.

My mum always called me ‘My Precious Bunny’. ‘A Moment In My Eyes’ is the last track on the album and best describes this collection of thoughts and feelings.
