The Groningen Report

From 17th to 20th of January this year’s edition of ESNS18 took place in Groningen, The Netherlands. In 52 venues in the city of Groningen 352 promising acts presented themselves to an audience of music professionals and other music lovers, more than 40.000!

The 60Minuten-team from Groningen was invited again and had the big chance to interview 7 amazing bands. First one was Jesus Chrüsler Supercar from Stockholm, Sweden, with amazing dirty Death’n Roll. Then we met Serushiô from Portugal, a dynamic duo known for their explosive live performances and creative instrumentation. Day 2 we met Jeangu Macrooy from The Netherlands with roots in Suriname. His first single ‘Gold’ was used in an HBO advertisement for ‘Game of Thrones’. During the night we met SURMA, from Portugal. Her music is kind of trip hop, ambient and electronica with integrated post-rock and jazz influences. Day 3 we first met Broen, a young five-piece band from Norway. They have built a reputation of being one of Norway’s finest live bands who offer something completely out of the ordinary. Later we met the post-punk band Pardans from Copenhagen, Denmark. On their debut album their singer Gustav Berntsen preaches: “Beauty face don’t get bored, just let your young heart free, with me.” And finally we met Rohey, from Norway. With a 21st century freshness, past any concept of vogue or any linear genre lines, Rohey delivers powerful and energetic neo-soul.
